Susan Coll-Guedes

Executive Director, SJDWF’s Moms for Mullock™ 

Susan Coll-Guedes is an educator, disability policy advocate, and doctoral researcher who has spent more than two decades helping New Jersey families navigate special education and the state's disability service systems. As Executive Director of Moms for Mullock™, a partnership with the South Jersey Democratic Women’s Forum (SJDWF), she brings parents, educators, and advocates together around the issues families feel most directly: education, healthcare, disability rights, housing, and economic opportunity.

A 2025 recipient of SPAN's Parent Champion Award, Susan has turned her family's experience into a broader mission. Her advocacy for families of medically complex adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities has been featured in New Jersey Monitor and NJ Spotlight News, part of statewide reporting on the crisis facing families who fight to keep loved ones at home rather than in institutions. When her son Alex was hospitalized for 297 days between December 2022 and October 2023, Susan secured the community-based support that brought him home rather than a facility, an outcome families are too often told is impossible.

Susan serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Atlantic Center for Independent Living. Her doctoral research examines how New Jersey's Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services system shapes the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the families who advocate alongside them.

Her approach is the same across the classroom, her research, and the statehouse: practical solutions built with families, not for them, so that people with disabilities can live, work, and thrive in the communities they call home.
